Lately I have observed that the so called "Breaking News" alerts that I redieve on my pc seriously lack international importance.
A couple of months ago, I recall recieving a breaking news alert regarding a "famous" lacrosse player from Duke University being cleared of rape-charges. I ask my self the question - where is the international importance of that news story? How important is it for me to know that a lacrosee (a sport not known to many outside the US) player has been cleared of rape charges?
With the recent events in London and at Glasgow airport, I would expect to recieve several alerts - but it has been very quiet from CNN with only one alert friday afternoon. Nothing about the incident at Glasgow airport nor the increased threatlevel..
I do respect that the story about the lacrosse player was a major story in the US at the time, but I would expect to recieve more international oriented alerts from the worlds leader in bringing news first. Specially because I subscribe to the International edition and not the US version.
Dear CNN editors - What is the definition of a breaking news story and what criteria is required for it to be an international breaking news story that you would send out to your millions of subscribers??
